About DamageMeters
DamageMeters is an independent fan site for planning World of Warcraft: Forever characters. It has a talent calculator for all nine classes and a gear planner, plus an AI review that reads your build and suggests changes.
Where the data comes from
Every talent, rank, item and set bonus on this site is compiled from the game client's own data tables: World of Warcraft: Forever beta build 1.60.1.70532 (465 talents, 4,899 items) and Classic Era build 1.15.9.70576 (7,697 items). Nothing is typed in by hand. Item stats, armor and weapon damage are calculated the same way the client does it and checked against Blizzard's own item API.
One thing the client does not say is which dungeon or raid boss drops an item. For that the gear planner uses the loot lists maintained by the AtlasLoot Classic addon community. Forever re-itemized most dungeon loot under new item ids, so those sources are still unknown for many Forever items; PvP, crafted, reputation and set pieces come straight from the client.
Forever is in beta. Blizzard changes numbers between builds, so treat everything here as current-beta data rather than final launch values.
What the optimizer is
Ask it for a character (“a level 19 rogue for PvP”) and it picks talents, gear and a rotation from the real game data, reasoning about tooltips and stats with a large language model (OpenAI). Every pick is then re-checked by the same rules the builder enforces, so it cannot hand you an illegal talent or an item your class cannot wear. It does not run a combat simulation, so it will not give you a damage-per-second number, and it can be wrong — treat it as a knowledgeable second opinion. Builds it makes are shared with everyone who asks for the same thing, which is what keeps it free.
