1. Guild

   MMO

   A player organization with its own chat, bank and raid schedule. The social unit of an MMO.

   “Our guild cleared BWL last week.”

   “Guild drama, again.”

2. DKP

   Raiding & dungeons

   Dragon kill points: a guild's loot currency, earned by attending raids and spent bidding on items.

   “I've saved 400 DKP for the Ashkandi.”

   “Minus 50 DKP for standing in the fire.”

3. Legendary

   WoW

   Orange-quality item: Thunderfury, Sulfuras, Atiesh. Long quest chains and raid drops, one per guild for months.

   “Guild's second Thunderfury goes to the off tank.”

4. Main tank

   Raiding & dungeons

   Also: MT

   The tank on the boss. The most geared, most trusted warrior in the guild, usually.

   “Main tank has the highest priority on Thunderfury.”

5. Master looter

   A loot mode where one player hands out everything. Standard in guild raids.

   “Master looter is the raid leader, whisper your rolls.”

   Pickup group: strangers found in chat rather than a guild. Pug a dungeon, pug a raid.

   The streamed competition between top guilds to clear a new raid first.

   The first guild in the world to kill a boss. The race that top raiding is about.

10. Casual

    Gaming slang

    A player who plays for fun and not much time. Also an insult from people who play too much.

    “Casual guild, two raids a week, no attendance rules.”

11. Hardcore

    Gaming slang

    Playing a lot and seriously. Also a WoW mode where death is permanent.

    “Hardcore guild, five raids a week.”

    “Died at 47 on hardcore to a disconnect.”

    The best gear available before you set foot in a raid: dungeons, crafting, reputation, PvP and the auction house.
