1. Rank

   PvP

   The vanilla PvP ranking, 1 to 14, based on weekly honor against everyone else on the server. Rank 14 — Grand Marshal or High Warlord — took months of near-full-time play.

   “He hit rank 14 in 2005 and never got a job.”

   “Rank 10 weapons are pre-raid BiS for a lot of specs.”

2. Grand Marshal

   Rank 14 on the Alliance side, with the best PvP weapons in vanilla. High Warlord for the Horde.

   Unable to climb past a rank, for a long time.

   “Hardstuck rank 9 for three weeks.”

   PvP

   Points from killing enemy players and winning battlegrounds. In vanilla they drove a weekly ranking; in Classic they buy PvP gear.

   “Honor resets Tuesday, grind while you can.”

   Gaming slang

   Finishing something as fast as possible, timed and ranked.

   “Speedrunning Molten Core under an hour.”

   Gaming slang

   A ranking of classes, specs or picks from S to F. Never agreed upon.

   “S tier is warrior, rogue, mage; nobody puts paladin above B.”

9. Grind

   MMO

   Repetitive play for XP, reputation, honor or gold. Farming with less dignity.

   “Grinding Timbermaw rep for the enchant.”

   “Rank grind ruined his sleep schedule.”

10. Honorable kill

    A kill on an enemy player of roughly your level that counts for honor. Killing greys gives nothing.

    “Twelve hundred honorable kills and still rank 7.”
