    WoW

    A beneficial effect on a player: Power Word: Fortitude, Battle Shout, food buffs, world buffs. Also, in patch notes, making something stronger.

  2. A player brought to a group just for their buffs. Also a character parked in a city to buff passers-by.

  3. A harmful effect on an enemy or you: Sunder Armor, Curse of Recklessness, Faerie Fire. Vanilla bosses have limited debuff slots, so raids plan which ones go on.
